About Us

What If the Church was founded on a simple principle:

How easily would the Gospel message spread if we earned the public’s trust by how we loved them?

What if the churches in every city were a central part of meeting the greatest local needs?

Our Story

What If the Church launched in Kansas City with a simple but powerful mission: bring churches and non-profits together to serve their city. Through coordinated outreach and deep partnerships rooted in Christ, the effort began to transform communities—physically, relationally, and spiritually.

As the initiative matured, it gave rise to the Community Minister Network, a nationwide program focused on equipping outreach leaders to lead with purpose and collaboration.

Today, What If the Church serves as a national catalyst for citywide transformation, helping churches and leaders across the country apply proven models of partnership and service to their local context—all with the goal of living and leading like Christ.

Research

Through interviews and surveys, we publish new research annually that studies the effectiveness of local outreach efforts and stats surrounding local outreach leaders in order to better inform best practices in the church outreach space.

Education

We want to inspire churches to see local missions just as cool as global missions. Spreading success stories and training up new local outreach leaders proves the impact local compassion has for moving the Gospel on the ground.

Connection

By connecting local outreach leaders to each other (through the Community Minister Network and Summit Events) and to other resources in their cities (through City Outreach Projects), we’ve seen remarkable change similar to the influence of the early church.

City Outreach Projects

In Kansas City, we joined together on the following initiatives with the goal to advance the Gospel of Jesus:
